The Vietnamese Computer Scientist Who Made Toy Story Possible

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and we are thrilled to share that Ted Kim, Yoehan Oh, and Jacinda Tran have published an article titled “The Vietnamese Computer Scientist Who Made Toy Story Possible” on TIME magazine. The late computer scientist Bùi Tường Phong created shading and reflection algorithms in the 1970s that bear his name. The three authors have pointed out that Bùi Tường Phong’s life trajectory, mis-rendered name, and mis-attributed posthumous photograph point to the ways technology and socio-political events intertwine.
